Shahriar is a physicist by training, obtained his PhD in 2016 from UCLA. In his graduate studies, he worked on problems in the field of condensed matter physics, in particular the solvation of charged particles in highly correlated liquids. After grad school he joined KITP, UCSB for a postdoc in biophysics during which he worked on the mechanisms of the planar polarity pathway in cells. Shahriar is currently working on the theory of control and programming the dynamics of active systems.
